Y’all... the more I see + learn about styled shoots the more I am against them.
Let me define what an actual styled shoot is. This is where either two models or two super attractive people are asked to wear a wedding dress+tux to pretend to be a bride and groom. There are florists, bakers, tailors, caterers, makeup artists, venues, etc involved. The entire set up is fake. No on is getting married. No true emotions are happening. It’s simply to add “perfect weddings” to everyone’s portfolio. About 80% of the photos y’all see of weddings on Pinterest are
literally f. a. k. e.
Now, why do I think this is wrong? Because there is no such thing as a “perfect” wedding. Every wedding is raw and real. Every emotion is REAL that day. The story we are all hired to tell is a genuine, life-long love story that is 100% unique. These styled shoots are trying to steal that focus. Whether intentionally or not, they are telling brides and grooms that their wedding days need to live up to these standards and the images need to come out as beautiful+perfect as these fake shoots. Im all for beautiful images and they just might be perfect in their own way... but they can’t live up to 20 photographers, 2 bakers, 2 florists, a perfect expensive venue, and a bunch of wedding planners version of “perfect.” I’m over it y’all! 🙌🏻
