Struggling with your mental health can be a f*cking sh*t storm🌫⛈when you feel like you don’t have control over what is going on. It can feel super alone when you look around and you see darkness in the starry night and an abandoned ship with no crew in the distance🌊⛴ and you feel like you are the only one on it. At times, it can feel as out of grasp on the flood of it all is fleeting, a sinking ship...
If this metaphor resonates with you 🙋🏻♂️and you are thinking you are strong for going alone, I can tell you that we are surely f*cking ourselves over.
I used to think I was strong for guiding my ship alone. The past few years of my life has been dedicated to leaping out of every box I have ever felt put in. Including this one🤷🏻♂️
Masculinity taught me that it was expected to deal with it on my own😔 My own fears protected me from every having a conversation about my mental health. And my impatience looked for quick fixes whenever I decided to dive at any sort of depth into myself🙇🏻♂️Almost as if I was trying to hold my breath as I plunged my face underwater. Only to realize years later there was never any water. I just had to take a big f*cking breath when I went down low🌊
Although we are responsible for getting ourselves help, we can’t do this sh*t alone. Its not pride we are saving, its shame. We set a standard that its only okay to reach for help when we feel the most weak or defeated😔 Really, we are just scared of facing judgement from others but also from ourselves. We don’t want to feel like a failure🙅🏻♂️
Reaching out for help is the strongest thing you can do, its not a cop out. It symbolizes humility, humbleness, and an openness to see yourself in a vulnerable state. Its the only way we can ultimately help ourselves🙇🏻♂️
Thats some serious f*cking bravery right there🙋🏻♂️
The gym teaches me 🏋🏻♀️everyday that we have power to do hard things, and that we can find this strength inside of ourselves if we continue to lean into what makes us feel discomfortable.
I hope that you can find a little bravery inside of yourself today#StrongerSelf
