This guy has started to show his true age, one of the very old stags ive photographed. Over the last few years his antlers have changed drastically, this year his anter growth seems to be taking a turn for the worse. There can be a few reasons for his antlers to grow like this, one of them can be age. It can also be because he may have damaged it during the growing period which will ultimately cause deformation. Genetics also play a big part in the way antlers grow. But personally i do think its because of how old he is. He's going to have a hard time during rutting season especially if he has any encounters with other large stags. The injuries he'll gain from clashing antlers with another will be catastrophic.
