One of the first and most valuable steps in my coaching process is restructuring some of the negative thoughts that people have around their sleep. These thoughts only perpetuate sleep issues and dig us into a cycle of chronic sleep loss.
👍The goal here is put some of the thoughts that people into context and spin them in a more positive light
👍The reality is that people’s sleep often aren’t drastic as they may seem, wont affect their life as negatively as they think and all hope is not lost.
👍It’s never too late to conquer sleep issues or to improve sleep quality to improve health and wellness quality of life. Just a few weeks of structuring your sleep a little differently and you can completely flip the script.
💤 A few of the common negative Sleep thoughts I come across and how to spin them positively:
▪️I will not be able to function tomorrow➡️ “I can handle sleep loss and my performance will not suffer significantly if I get my core sleep (around 5 hours that the brain craves)
▪️My sleep will never improve this is the way I am➡️ As I learn new techniques my sleep will improve. Many people like me have improved their sleep.
▪️I must have some other health problem there’s something wrong with me ➡️ Insomnia and sleep issues are very common and are usually caused by my sleep behaviors that I can correct not health problems
🔴 The idea behind these is NOT to accept sleep issues and not doing anything them about but rather to decrease some of the anxiety you might be having about your sleep. Working on this alone can pay huge dividends in helping you sleep better.
